FROM WANTING TO GETTING: THE MINDSET SHIFTS THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING

Wanting is easy. Getting—really getting what you’re after—takes more than vision boards, motivation, or willpower. In this week’s blog post, our founder Alex Loi shares a candid perspective from her book From Wanting To Getting on the subtle but powerful mindset shifts that move us from wishing to achieving.

Whether you're building a business, working through a life transition, or pursuing something personal, these lessons are designed to help you move forward with clarity and integrity.

1. Clarity Over Chaos

It’s almost impossible to get what you want if you’re not clear on what that is. Many of us stay stuck in the loop of wanting because we’ve never paused to define success on our own terms. Maybe your goals are vague, or maybe they’re borrowed from someone else’s blueprint. Either way, confusion keeps you static.

Getting starts with ruthless clarity—about what you value, what you're willing to trade, and what you’re not. It’s not about having all the answers, but about being honest enough to ask better questions.

2. Compassion Over Perfection

You don’t need to be perfect to make progress. And you certainly don’t need to punish yourself for not having it all figured out. Growth is messy. It’s nonlinear. And it often asks us to let go of the idea that more pressure equals more results.

True momentum comes when you replace guilt with self-compassion. It means forgiving the detours, recognizing your effort, and choosing the next right step—even if it’s small. Especially if it’s small.

3. Action Over Waiting

The idea that we need more time, more confidence, or more certainty before we begin is a myth. Progress favors motion, not preparation. You don’t need to be ready—you need to be moving.

Often the answers we’re seeking only emerge once we’re already in motion. Action breeds clarity. If you’re waiting to feel less afraid, more qualified, or fully confident, you may be waiting forever. The best time to start is with what you know now.

4. Grit That Aligns, Not Drains

Grit is not about grinding at all costs. It’s not about burning out in the name of ambition. Real grit—the kind that sustains you—is rooted in alignment. When your effort matches your values, your energy shifts. You may still be tired, but it’s the kind of tired that feels meaningful.

The most fulfilled people aren’t the ones pushing the hardest—they’re the ones moving in a direction that feels true. The difference? Purpose.

From Wanting To Getting isn’t about force—it’s about focus. It’s about learning to trust yourself, even when the path is unclear. And most of all, it’s about choosing to move, even when it’s uncomfortable.
