DESIRE IS NOT FRIVOLOUS. IT’S A COMPASS.
There’s a quiet ache many of us carry — the sense that we want more, but aren’t quite sure how to claim it. Not because we’re greedy or entitled. But because somewhere along the way, we were taught that wanting is indulgent. That desire must be earned. That ambition needs justification.
At The Grit Club, we believe the opposite: your desire is data. It’s a direction. It’s the compass pointing you toward a life and career that actually feels like yours.
So how do we stop circling the edge of what we want — and start building it?
Step 1: Name What You Want Without Editing
Before you create anything, you have to name it. Not the polished, LinkedIn-ready version — the real one.
Ask yourself:
If no one were watching, what would I want to build?
What do I crave more of in my daily life — space, freedom, creativity, ease?
What’s one “impractical” dream I keep pushing away?
Write it down. Don’t worry about the “how” yet. Just practice naming your want with honesty. That alone is a radical act.
Step 2: Choose a Micro-Action
Desire without action can become a loop of frustration. But action doesn’t have to be massive.
Try this:
Block 30 minutes for the project you keep postponing.
Have a 15-minute coffee with someone doing what you dream of.
Say no to one thing that isn’t aligned — and yes to one small thing that is.
The shift happens not in the grand leap, but in the tiny decision that says: I take myself seriously.
Step 3: Notice What Feels Alive
Wanting isn’t just about goals — it’s about energy. Tune into what feels alive in your body. Often, the path of alignment is quieter, but more energizing.
Ask:
What am I doing when I feel most like myself?
Where do I leave feeling filled, not drained?
Build from that place. Desire that’s rooted in truth always leads somewhere meaningful.
Step 4: Let Go of the Guilt
Creating from want instead of should will trigger guilt at first. That’s okay. Guilt doesn’t mean you’re wrong — it means you’re disrupting a pattern.
You’re allowed to:
Rest before you’re tired
Build something that makes sense only to you
Want more — just because you do.
